The Edo State Government says it has taken a significant step towards boosting foreign direct investments by unveiling plans to establish a dedicated diaspora investment desk.

The initiative was aimed at facilitating seamless engagement with the Edo diaspora community, and tap into their expertise and resources for the advancement of the states economic landscape.

The Managing Director, Edo State Investment Promotion Office (Ease of Doing Business), Kelvin Uwaibi, who stated this also called for a strong partnership between the eighth Edo State House of Assembly and the governmental investment entities.

He said, There is a need to bolster foreign investment and the State Government has finalised plans to create the diaspora investment desk which is aimed at facilitating seamless engagement with the expansive Edo diaspora community, tap into their expertise and resources for the advancement of the states economic landscape.

"There are some other policies that we would need our lawmakers to support us with, which will soon be brought to them such as the MSMEs Policy. We have done it with the help of our development partner, GIZ. It will soon get to their table for legislative backing. We are also pursuing the digital economy policy at the moment.

While stating his commitment to the synergy between stakeholders, Uwaibi expressed his aspirations for a harmonious coexistence between local communities and burgeoning enterprises.

He added, We also hope to see stakeholders engage with the local government, by starting from the grassroots. We want a situation where businesses and the host communities live in harmony. This will create a more friendly environment for investors which will directly benefit the host communities.

Africa and its people are filled with rich history and dynamic cultures. Majority of the communities that inhabit the continent use oral communication, as such much of the history is undocumented. And as the custodians of our oral history pass on, more history is lost. The African Archives is dedicated to providing a space where African history, in all its forms - written, oral, pictorial, etc. can be preserved. The portal welcomes contributors.
